Lúcio Santos is a registered architect in the state of New York & New Jersey, a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and a LEED Green Associate. He received a Master of Architecture and Urbanism degree from the Architectural Association Design Research Lab [DRL] post-graduate program in London, and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology School of Architecture.
His work experience spans North America, Europe, and the Middle East where he has worked on projects ranging from small installations to high-end residential and housing complexes, mixed-use developments, infrastructure, hospitality, sports, educational, and cultural buildings. His interest in design as a process of formal experimentation has developed a varied body of work which is constantly evolving. His work has been widely published and received numerous awards.
Prior to founding the studio Lúcio worked as a Senior Architect & Project Leader at Bjarke Ingels Group NYC where he managed the facade development and construction administration phase of an 11-story mixed-use residential building in East Harlem, NY. Prior to joining BIG Lúcio worked as an Associate at FXFOWLE Architects, a Senior Designer at SOM and a Project Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects in London. He has been an invited critic at the Architectural Association, Columbia University, City College of New York, and New York Institute of Technology.
